Language/character set problems

Unicode:

Any language and character set may by used in Sub Machine thanks to our Unicode interface, but you must use a Unicode font to do it. Font is selected under setup/layout configuration/visual settings - eg. Arial Unicode MS.

Unicode can be saved/exported in several formats: Spruce STL, Screen Poliscript, Adobe Encore, Swift xif, Subrip, Final Cut Pro, Sonic, and USF, or be exported as bitmaps for the Philips DVD authoring system.

Right-to-left writing is supported (in the edit window only, though). But do remember to modify regional settings under Windows and load a Unicode font (see above). Try loading the USF file "International lorem ipsum.usf" from the TitleVision subfolder DATA. It contains Arabic, Hebrew and Greek examples. If you can see them, Bob's your uncle.

ANSI:

Some imported files containing non-Western languages, eg. Arabic, may look like gibberish, even if they are not saved as Unicode. If you run into this problem, they are probably saved as ANSI files that need the use of a specific code page.

Example:

You import an Arabic srt file, and it looks like this: ÊÑÌãÉ ãÍãÏ ÑÓáÇä ãä áÈäÇä

That's ANSI.

To solve this problem, do this:

1.In Windows Explorer, right click the subtitle and click Open With and select Microsoft Office Word, and in the table select Arabic (Windows) and click OK.

2.In Microsoft Office Word click Edit, then Select All, then Edit again, then Copy.

3.Open Notepad, click Edit, and select Paste.

4.Close Microsoft Office Word.

5.In Notepad click File, then Save As. Write .srt extension and select encoding UTF8

6.Import in Sub Machine.
